The Molinari Quartet is very proud to have won the Opus prize for the Concert of the year – modern, contemporary music for its concert Tribute to R. Murray Schafer that was held on October 15 2021. The prize was awarded at Opus Prize Gala held by the Conseil québécois de la musique on February 5 at Bourgie Hall in Montreal.
The Molinari Quartet is the guest of the Luminato Festival to celebrate R. Murray Schafer’s legacy.
The Quartet will perform on the stage at Yonge-Dundas Square at 7pm a concert of 45 minutes of Schafer’s string quartets.

Other than the Quatuor III by André Boucourechliev and Quatuor (1997) by Otto Joachim, the Molinari Quartet will perform Kelly-Marie Murphy’s energetic Oblique Light. With a special thought for R. Murray Schafer, who passed away in August 2021, the musicians will end the concert with his 13th quartet, Alzheimer’s Masterpiece.

The Molinari Quartet pays tribute to the great American arts patron Elizabeth Sprague-Coolidge who recognized and encouraged important composers of the beginning of the 20th century. Thanks to her vision and generosity, musical masterpieces were composed.
The Quartet will perform two works that she commissioned as well as R. Murray Schafer’s 12th string quartet. This work was commissioned to underline the 15th anniversary of the Molinari Quartet and was made possible thanks to the generosity of Quebec patron Phyllis Lambert.

This workshop enables the public to familiarize itself with the quartet repertoire by direct exchanges with the musicians. The Quartet plays excerpts, comments and analyses the works and gives historical and musical references. This Dialogue will discuss the works that will be performed on December 13 at the Conservatoire.Free admission.

Surrounded by the works of the exhibit François Sullivan. Hommages. the musicians of the Molinari Quartet will play some of their favourite works of their 2018-19 season.
It’s with great pleasure that they welcome back harpist Valérie Milot to perform the beautiful and colourful Theseus for string quartet and harp by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer. The Quartet will also perform For Sun’s Light by the young Greek composer Menelaos Peistikos, winner of the 3rdprize and the Public’s Prize of its 7thInternational Composition Competition. Finally, the celebrated Quartet in F by Maurice Ravel, always a great pleasure to play and listen.
