Notturno

Conservatoire de Montréal 4750, avenue Henri-Julien, Montréal, QC, Canada

The second concert of the Twentieth and Beyond series by the Molinari Quartet is entitled Notturno.

Nocturnes or night music are presented in different forms; usually they are soft and calm, but they can also take on a more troubled character.

The two short works by Kurtág, Aus der Ferne, music from afar, are delicate, transparent and breath holding. Luciano Berio’s Notturno brings us into the turmoil but always resolves in calm moments. To close the concert, the Molinari’s will play Béla Bartók’s last quartet, No.6. A work of profound solitude and sorrow, the principal theme heard all through the work is a gentle and sad lullaby.

Programme :

György Kurtág : Aus der ferne III et V

Luciano Berio : Notturno

Béla Bartók : Quartet no. 6
