Two composers, two quartets from each one. Dive into the worlds of composers Dimitri Shostakovich and John Rea with the musicians of the Molinari Quartet.

Montreal composer John Rea wrote Objets perdus in 1992 for the Kronos Quartet and to celebrate his 80th anniversary, the Molinari Quartet has commissioned him a new work Objets perçus that will receive its premiere during this concert.

Dimitri Shostakovich's cycle of 15 string quartets is full of richness and the Molinaris chose two lesser known works for this concert, Nos. 10 and 13.

The Molinari Quartet continues its tradition of playing full cycles of string quartets by one same composer. This concert will feature the six string quartets by Viennese composer Anton Webern.

A conference on Webern and his work will by given by Jean Portugais at 6:30 pm, an hour before the concert.

The Molinari Quartet proposes a concert of works rich in colours! The music passes from Polish folklore to the orientalizing colors of Ali-Zadeh and from the Russian torment of Shostakovich to the French refinement of Debussy

Mezzo-soprano Stéphanie Pothier is accompanied by the Molinari Quartet is an innovative multimedia creation combining music and immersive video scenography, inspired by the work and destiny of Camille Claudel, an exceptional French sculptor.

The Molinari Quartet is pleased to present its second concert of the season of the series «Music to See» held at the Molinari Foundation, 3290 Ste. Catherine street East, Montréal.

The programme of this concert will feature short works for string quartet as well as the last two movements of Arnold Schoenberg's String Quartet No.2 which demands a soprano soloist. The young emerging artist Odile Portugais will join the musicians for this work.
