The Molinari Quartet is very proud to present the world premiere of Le grand rétro, the first string quartet by its violinist Antoine Bareil. Inspired by his numerous musical experiences and his prolific imagination, Bareil’s Le grand rétro outlines a musical path throughout different styles. The Molinari Quartet will also premiere the first string quartet by Canadian composer Christopher Goddard, who is one of the winners of the 2018 Graham Sommer composition competition.

To close the concert, you will hear the very elaborate string quartet no. 14 by Dimitri Shostkovich.

A Schafer Celebration

This concert is organised by Schafer’s widow Eleanor James and Soundstreams with the collaboration of Grace Church-on-the-Hill and the Canadian Music centre.

To pay tribute to Schafer, Soundstreams’ Founding Artistic Director Lawrence Cherney has put together a small sample of Schafer’s masterworks to be performed by some of Schafer’s long time collaborators and friends.

The Molinari Quartet at Toronto’s Luminato Festival

The Molinari Quartet is the guest of the Luminato Festival to celebrate R. Murray Schafer’s legacy.
The Quartet will perform on the stage at Yonge-Dundas Square at 7pm a concert of 45 minutes of Schafer’s string quartets.

The Molinari Quartet performs in the event Entre soi et l'autre, a scenographic concert about the occupation of space. They will play George Crumb's famous Black Angels and accompany contralto Rose Naggar-Tremblay in "Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen" by Gustav Mahler. Don’t miss the anniversary-concert celebrating the 25 years of the Molinari Quartet. The Quartet will perform important works from its repertoire that have highlighted its 25 years of music making. Eastern European quartets are at the heart of the concert.

Théâtre musical LES FABLES DE LA FONTAINE

Ce théâtre musical familial est une présentation du Conseil des arts de Montréal en tournée et du Quatuor Molinari en collaboration avec Mme Catherine Perrin, au clavecin et à la narration. Onze fables seront récitées par Catherine Perrin et illustrées par une musique de Denis Gougeon pour clavecin et quatuor à cordes, et par celle de Jean-Philippe Rameau pour clavecin. La première partie fera entendre Molinari dans le Quatuor op. 11 de Samuel Barber (avec son célèbre Adagio), suivi des Fables en seconde partie.
