SUMMARY:The Quartet According to Ali-Zadeh. Round table discussion : Folklore in contemporary music.
DESCRIPTION:The Molinari Quartet presents a three day event around composer Franghiz Ali-Zadeh. \nComposer Franghiz Ali-Zadeh is an internationally renowned composer whose works create bridges between the music from her native South-Western Asian roots and Western music. She is also a concert pianist\, artistic director of music festivals and is regularly called upon to be on the jury of international competitions. \nRound table discussion : Folklore in contemporary music. \nThe music of Ali-Zadeh is very much influenced by Azerbaijani music as well as by the national music of neighboring countries. Are today’s young composers still bond by the music of their native land? Is this path outdated and does it belong to the past generations? Has globalization reached classical music? \nGuests: Franghiz Ali-Zadeh\, Ana Sokolovic\, Nicolas Gilbert\, Jonathan Goldman and Maxime McKinley. \nThe roundtable discussion will take place in the Recital Hall of the Montreal Conservatory. \nFree admission.

SUMMARY:Notturno
DESCRIPTION:The second concert of the Twentieth and Beyond series by the Molinari Quartet is entitled Notturno. \nNocturnes or night music are presented in different forms; usually they are soft and calm\, but they can also take on a more troubled character. \nThe two short works by Kurtág\, Aus der Ferne\, music from afar\, are delicate\, transparent and breath holding. Luciano Berio’s Notturno brings us into the turmoil but always resolves in calm moments. To close the concert\, the Molinari’s will play Béla Bartók’s last quartet\, No.6. A work of profound solitude and sorrow\, the principal theme heard all through the work is a gentle and sad lullaby. \n  \nProgramme : \nGyörgy Kurtág : Aus der ferne III et V \nLuciano Berio : Notturno \nBéla Bartók : Quartet no. 6
